The Vancouver Canucks are not wasting any time in getting ready for the upcoming NHL season.

After hiring Trent Cull to fill the AHL Utica Comets’ head coaching job, the Vancouver Canucks continued to add to their coaching staff by hiring 44-year-old Darryl Seward to replace former video coach Ben Cooper.

Seward comes to Vancouver following two years at the AHL level as a video coach and four years at the QMJHL level.

Most notably, Seward was part of the AHL Cleveland Monsters coaching team that won the Calder Cup in 2016. He was also part of the coaching team for the gold-winning Team Canada at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial.

Seward joins a Canucks coaching team led by Head Coach Travis Green. He will work with Assistant Coaches Newell Brown, Nolan Baumgartner, Doug Jarvis and Manny Malhotra, Goaltending Coach Dan Cloutier and Skill Coach Glenn Carnegie.

With the addition of Seward, the Canucks’ coaching staff is complete. The focus of the coaching staff now is to assess the prospects at the prospects game.

Because of how many players are vying for roster spots at the NHL level, the Canucks will need to make assess these prospects and decide who stays and who goes.

There is an added emphasis to having a full house of coaches this year. Due to the split squad games that will take place simultaneously in China and in Canada, all the coaches will need to be working at their full capacity to make the best decisions for opening day.
