With the NHL Trade Deadline fast approaching, the Canucks, who have already traded Quinn Hughes and Kiefer Sherwood, have now traded defenceman Tyler Myers to the Dallas Stars.

It appears to be a full court press for Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin and the rest of the Canucks front office, as they currently boast the highest odds at the number one overall pick in the upcoming draft.

Per NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the Canucks will receive a 2027 second-round pick and a 2029 fourth-round pick. In order to secure this return for the 36-year old defenceman, the Canucks will retain 50 percent of what is left on Myers’ current contract, or $1.5 million this and next season.

Given the upcoming trade deadline and trade talks, Myers has not appeared in a game since before the NHL paused play for the Olympic break, as the Canucks have been holding him out of the lineup to ensure his health and the best return possible in a trade.

Right now this is absolutely the right move for the Canucks, as they continue to trade veterans, stockpile young assets and draft picks and turn the page into a new era of Canucks hockey.

Myers, a 17-year NHL veteran, played the last seven seasons with the Canucks, primarily as a shut down defenceman. In his career he has averaged nearly 22 minutes of ice time per game, and his towering 6'8" frame paired with his skating ability have and continue to make him effective in his role.
