Evander Kane has signed a contract in the KHL, according to his agent, who was a guest on Daily Faceoff.
This move comes after Kane went without a contract to start the 2026-27 season despite receiving "multiple offers." He now will take his talents overseas and join the KHL; however, at this time, there is still no official word on what team is going to be joining.
Kane heads to Russia
It is no secret that Kane has had a drama-filled career over his 16 seasons in the NHL. Right from the start time with the Atlanta Thrashers, there seemed to be issues that followed him around. Pairing that and the drop-off in his play is a good reason as to why he is heading to Russia to play in the KHL rather than staying in North America to play in the NHL.
As mentioned, he played 16 seasons in the NHL, starting in Atlanta with the aforementioned Thrashers who drafted him 4th overall in the 2009 NHL draft. After just two seasons with the club, the organization relocated to Winnipeg. He would spend four seasons with the Jets before joining the Buffalo Sabres.
After three seasons with the Sabres, he would go on to join the San Jose Sharks and then the Edmonton Oilers and his hometown Vancouver Canucks just last season. Over the 16 seasons in the NHL, Kane had 339 goals and 309 assists for 648 points in 1001 games.
As he looks on to his next chapter, it seems fairly certain that his time in the NHL is officially over. Unless he has a great season in the KHL and earns a contract this summer, it seems that teams are shying away from the off-ice antics and drama that have plagued him his entire career.
