The Canucks recently attempted to resign Boeser, but it appears the 28 year old will be heading to the open market on July 1st, per Frank Seravalli.

Boeser had 25 goals and 50 points in 75 games this season, a year after setting a career high in goals with 40 and points with 73.

As a key part of the Canucks playoff run in 2023, Boeser contributed 7 goals and 12 points, in 12 games including a hat-trick in game 4 against the Nashville Predators and two goals in Game 4 against the Oilers.

The Canucks drafted Boeser 23rd overall in 2015, and he almost immediately made his impact with the Canucks as a Calder trophy finalist in his first season. Boeser has had his fair share of injuries over the years, but has still managed to be a consistent 20-30 goal scorer.

Possible destinations for Boeser

While it’s still possible Boeser and the Canucks return to the negotiating table, the 28 year old is expected to garner interest from multiple teams when he hits free agency on July 1st, including his hometown Minessota Wild,  Boston Bruins, and the Los Angeles Kings.

The Wild have been previously linked to Boeser in trade rumors, and it’s expected they will be in contact with his camp when free agency opens.

The Bruins notably had the opportunity to draft Boeser in 2015, but instead he fell to the Canucks at 23rd overall.

The Oilers have also emerged as a potential dark horse team to acquire Boeser’s services, according to David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period.

Boeser is expected to demand 7.5-8 million dollars on a long-term deal.

What does this mean for the Canucks?

With Boeser set to hit free agency, the Canucks search for several top 6 players will be accelerated. While the Canucks have already acquired forward Evander Kane, and are expected to announce a six year contract extension with Conor Garland on July 1st, the team is still looking to add to their top 6.

Mostly notably, the Canucks need to add a second line center. Whether the Canucks gauge the trade market for a second line center or test the free agent market is yet to be seen, but the team is expected to be busy working the phones over the next couple days, all starting tonight with round one of the NHL draft.
