Pettersson has not appeared in a game since December 5th, missing a total of eight games due to an upper body injury.
A lot has changed on the ice for the Canucks since Pettersson last played, including the trade of former Captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild, but Pettersson will finally have the chance to play alongside the recently acquired Marco Rossi and Zeev Buium.
Petterson is currently averaging a career high in minutes at 20:37 per game, and with Hughes gone his experience and hopefully his leadership will be things that the Canucks will be able to lean on going forward, as there have been questions raised about the latter in the past.
In terms of Pettersson’s game on the ice this year, he has seen a slight increase in points per game from 0.70 to 0.78, shots on goal per game from 1.70 to 1.93, and shooting percentage from 13.8% to 14.8%.
And despite his solid but career worst Corsi For % at 53.8%, Pettersson’s number of high danger shots per game has gone from .61 per game to .64 per game, as he has shown willingness to drive the net, as seen in this great goal agains the San Jose Sharks, which was also his last goal before getting injured.
The Canucks are currently just six points out of a playoff spot and will be relying heavily on Elias Pettersson for the rest of the season.
