The draft is right around the corner for the Vancouver Canucks.

After July 7 and 8, the Canucks may look pretty different. There has been a lot of buzz and speculation surrounding the team right now. Many of that involves J.T. Miller but there has been another player whose name has been brought up in trade rumours.

That is Tyler Myers. Numerous hockey insiders have mentioned Myers as a name to monitor including David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman made his weekly appearance on CHEK TV’s Donnie and Dhali: The Team and spoke about Myers.

“Vancouver has a price, if you are willing to pay that, they will talk to you,” said Friedman.

With Myers’ 10-team no-trade list kicking in, it is easier to trade him than it would have been last season or before that. The Canucks will want to create more cap space and getting rid of Myers and his six million dollar cap hit is definitely one of the ways to do so.

Why would a team want Myers? Sure, defensively he isn’t that great and he is prone to turnovers but he can provide a bit of offence. Under Bruce Boudreau, he probably played his best hockey as a Canuck.

A lot of NHL General Managers and scouts love players with size. Standing at 6′ 8″, teams would love to acquire Myers due to how big he is.

What can the Canucks get for Myers?

As Friedman mentioned the Canucks have set a price on Myers. What is the price? We don’t know.

Basically, the Canucks should take whatever they can for him even if that is a seventh round pick. They should take the cap space and run. At least, that’s what I think. However, they will probably want more than just a seventh round pick for Myers.

I just have the feeling the Canucks will want some kind of value back for Myers. Don’t expect a lot, however. Realistically, a mid-round pick and maybe a C-tier prospect would probably do it for the Canucks. If they can get that offer, that’s great.

You never know sometimes, there could be an offer better than that. Remember, Travis Hamonic got traded for a third round pick and somehow Rasmus Ristolainen got traded for a first and a second.

However, if Myers is traded they would need to fill the big (pun intended) hole he would leave on the right side of the blue line. There has to be a plan to replace Myers if they can get a deal done whether that’s acquiring a replacement in free agency or trade.

Will the Canucks Myers get traded?

There is interest in Myers so there is a good chance.

Could he get traded during the draft? Maybe. But it seems likely Myers could get traded after the draft or after free agency opens.

If I had to make a prediction, Myers will get traded for a mid-round pick or two on the first day of free agency.

Next. With the Canucks re-signing Boeser, a Miller trade feels inevitable. dark
