The Vancouver Canucks will be back in Canada on Monday night, taking on the equally disappointing Montreal Canadiens in the second half of their back-to-back. Following their 3-2 defeat in Boston on Sunday night, in which the Canucks blew a 2-1 lead going into the third period, Vancouver will look to edge out a fellow underachieving team in the Habs.

The Canucks now sit dead last in the Pacific Division with a record of 6-14-2, while Montreal is 6-15-2, holding seventh place in the Atlantic Division, five points ahead of the Ottawa Senators.

Despite making it to the Stanley Cup Finals last season, the Habs have had a horrible start to the year, which led to the recent firing of General Manager Marc Bergevin and a few other front office executives. They have also been missing key players for large chunks of the season, some of which include Carey Price, Joel Edmundson, Shea Weber and Mike Hoffman, but still no excuse for the club.

Both of these squads sit in the bottom-five of the league for both offensive and defensive rankings, while also having two of the worst special teams’ units in the NHL.

This truly is a matchup between two of the NHL’s worst teams, with both franchises becoming increasingly under the microscope from their fans and local media.

After starting Jaroslav Halak in Boston last night, the Canucks will undoubtedly turn to Thatcher Demko between the pipes on Monday, whilst Montreal should return to Jake Allen in net following his 47-save performance against Pittsburgh.

Canadiens vs. Canucks Prediction:

In a matchup between two reeling teams, expect the game to stay very tight, enough so to allow the Canucks to cover +1.5. Interestingly enough, Montreal has failed to win consecutive games this season. Theoretically, this trend should lead us to believe the Canucks are in-line for a victory after Montreal handled Pittsburgh 6-3 on Saturday.

However, as we’ve seen all year, Vancouver is no easy team to trust. The Habs’ defensive struggles should open the door to allow the Canucks to lead or stay right with them all night, and this writer is confident that’s exactly what will happen.

Pick: Canucks +1.5 at -220
