It’s time to check on the Vancouver Canucks AHL Affiliate in Abbotsford.

The Abby Canucks were played their last two games on the road in Stockton California to play the Calgary Flames affiliate, the Heat.

They used to be called the Abbotsford Heat and played their games at the Abbotsford Centre from 2009-2014. For obvious reasons, they didn’t work out in the Fraser Valley and moved to Adirondack, New York to become the Adirondack Flames. After just one season in Adirondack, they Flames moved them to Stockton where they have been the Heat ever since.

Before the current Abbotsford AHL team went down to Stockton, the big club called up Travis Hamonic and sent down Jack Rathbone on November 1.

Hamonic got some NHL game action during Vancouver’s seven-game homestand while it was an oppurtunity for Rathbone to work on his game.

On Wednesday, Vancouver called up Rathbone and sent Hamonic to Abbotsford.

With Vancouver heading on a three-game road trip in the United States, Hamonic can’t join them due to not being considered fully vaccinated. In order to be fully vaccinated, two weeks must have passed after Hamonic receives his second dose.

“Individuals will be considered fully vaccinated once two weeks have passed since receiving the final dose of an FDA, Health Canada or WHO approved COVID-19 vaccine,” outlines the NHL’s COVID protocol.

Let’s see how Abbotsford did over the past few weeks.

Stockton got one in the third before John Stevens put Abbotsford close late but it was too late.

Michael Dipietro made 33 saves on 36 shots in the loss.

Arturs Silovs got the start the next night. He made 19 saves on 21 shots. This was his best save of the game.

Sheldon Rempel put the Canucks up 1-0 five minutes into the first and that was his first of the season. Sheldon Dries got the assists. Unfortunately, Stockton got two in the second and Abbotsford was unable to tie it up.

Cameron Schilling almost tied it up in the third but take a look at the speed from Will Lockwood.
