The Vancouver Canucks play host to the Anaheim Ducks (6-4-3) on Tuesday night in the last game of their seven game home stand. Following a much needed 6-3 victory over the Dallas Stars on Sunday night, in which the Canucks top offensive talent finally broke out in fashionable style, Vancouver (5-6-1) will look to build upon their performance and get their season trending in the right direction.

The Ducks roll into Vancouver scorching hot after being victors in each of their last four games, a much needed streak after enduring a six game losing streak prior. A young and upcoming team, Anaheim is lead behind the bench by veteran coach Dallas Eakins, and is led on the ice by veterans Ryan Getzlaf and Rickard Rakell and youngster Trevor Zegras.

The Ducks are a statistically strong team, ranking inside the top-12 in goals scored per game, and goals allowed per game. Special teams are another strong area for the Californian team, with their power play ranking 6th in the league and the penalty kill being ranked 9th. This matchup will be critical to this game given Vancouver’s disastrous start to the year on special teams, particularly with the penalty kill. Finding consistency in their system and style will be essential to the Ducks if they wish to be a playoff contender in the Western Conference this season.

Despite no confirmation yet, expect starters Thatcher Demko and John Gibson to start in between the pipes for each team.

Canucks vs. Ducks Prediction:

Another Canucks game in which both teams are totally unpredictable, and show up as a different unit every night. Following their slow start, the Ducks are red-hot, while the Canucks have shown zero signs of reliability night-in and night-out. After being involved in a nine goal thriller on Sunday in which the stars upfront finally broke out, I’m banking on the offence to continue into the following games. The Ducks like to get involved in high scoring games themselves, with the over hitting in 8 of 13 games they’ve played in. Expect a high-octane game with lots of goals regardless of who starts in each respective net.

Pick: Over 5.5 goals
