The Vancouver Canucks (3-5-1) are in the midst of a three game losing streak. Following back-to-back 2-1 defeats, and after only scoring four goals in the last three home games, Vancouver hosts the New York Rangers (6-2-1) on Tuesday night at Rogers Arena in game four of seven for their home stand.

The Rangers come to town on the back of a 3-1 victory on Sunday night in Seattle, boasting the 4th best defensive record in the NHL, allowing just 2.11 goals per game. Constructed and set up by seasoned head coach Gerard Gallant, the Rangers play a very structured style of hockey led by Norris Trophy winner Adam Fox on the backend, and high octane forward Artemi Panarin.

The home team are desperate for a win as you know. Incumbent starter Thatcher Demko is expected to get the start in net for Vancouver, and will be hoping his offence will show up against one of the NHL’s best goalies right now, Igor Shesterkin.

Rangers vs. Canucks: Prediction

Much like my pick for the Oilers game on Saturday night, I expect the Vancouver to keep it close right down to the wire and cover the puckline.

Both the Rangers and the Canucks are offensively challenged right now, coincidentally ranking in the bottom eight amongst NHL team for goals per game. On the opposite side of ice, both also happen to rank amongst the top ten defensive sides in the league. This on paper makes for a tightly played contest. The Rangers consistency to start the season scares me away from picking Vancouver outright on the moneyline, but taking them to cover in a low scoring game seems to be the safe pick.

Pick: Canucks +1.5 & Under 5.5 goals
