The Vancouver Canucks (3-4-1) have lost two consecutive games to begin their seven-game homestand. Following consecutive one-goal losses at the hands of the Wild and Flyers, the Canucks look to rebound against a fellow Canadian team, the Edmonton Oilers (5-1-0).

The Oilers have been amongst the hottest teams in the NHL to begin the 2021-22 season, with noted superstar Connor McDavid carrying the load alongside Leon Draisaitl.

Edmonton comes to Rogers Arena on Saturday night, hoping to pile misery onto the Canucks, who will have the tough task of defending the Oilers’ strong offensive contributions. Edmonton currently has the first-ranked powerplay, clicking at 42.9% thus far, and the third-ranked offensive output, sitting at 4.29 goals per game.

After Jaroslav Halak played on Thursday night against the Flyers, starter Thatcher Demko will return to the net on Saturday. The Oilers will be going with Mikko Koskinen on the other end.

Koskinen has held the net while Mike Smith has been on IR, however Oilers’ head coach Dave Tippet did give a positive update on Smith’s condition, saying that he has practiced recently.

Oilers vs. Canucks: Prediction

The Canucks are desperate for a win to kick the homestand into gear. After dropping consecutive games, Vancouver cannot afford a third straight loss, especially if they want to be serious playoff contenders in the Pacific Division.

Expect them to come out quick and with urgency against Edmonton, while also playing a physical game aimed at slowing down the Oilers’ high powered offence. The road team has a middle of the pack defensive record thus far this year, and currently allow the most shots against in the entire league.

Hopefully Vancouver can keep the game in check right to the final horn.

Pick: Canucks +1.5 at -195
