Pettersson and Hughes’ contracts not that far apart

Of course, the big topic among Canucks fans and media is the status of Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes’ contracts.

Benning was asked about that right off the bat.

“We’ve been, you know, dealing with that all summer,” said Benning. “I’m disappointed that they’re not going to be here for the start of camp. But I’m going to continue to talk to CAA and Pat Brisson and try to get something figured out here as soon as we can.”

Benning was also asked if the two sides were far apart.

“I don’t think we’re that far apart,” said Benning. “These are complex and unique deals. These are two good young players and important part of our group.”

Green also spoke about Pettersson and Hughes’ absence and how it would affect the team at training camp.

“But it affects the team and affects the players themselves individually,” said Green. “You know, I’m disappointed that they’re not here, as a coach.  Training camp is, is a big part of working on certain parts of your game and these are two young young players that are vital to our team.  It’s an important time for them and our team.”

According to Thomas Drance and Rick Dhaliwal of The Athletic, Pettersson left Vancouver on Monday evening to fly to Michigan to train with Hughes.
