The Vancouver Canucks have released the roster for their 2021 rookie camp.
A number of prospects have been invited to participate in some on-ice sessions at Rogers Arena on Friday, September 17. Eight forwards, three defencemen and a goaltender are on the roster.
Vasili Podkolzin is obviously the biggest name on here. The 10th overall pick in the 2019 draft has been playing the last two seasons with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL. The feisty two-way winger is ready to make an impact in the NHL and Canucks fans have every right to be excited about him.
Danila Klimovich is also a name to watch. The Belarusian winger is expected to play the season in the QMJHL or with the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks.
Jett Woo, the team’s second round pick in 2018 and Viktor Persson the Canucks seventh round pick in 2020 are attending. Woo is expected to take another step forward with Abbotsford and Persson is expected to play in the WHL with the Kamloops Blazers.
The only goaltender attending is Arturs Silovs who was selected by the Canucks in the sixth round in the 2019 draft. Silovs was on Latvia’s Olympic qualifying roster this summer.
There are two former Vancouver Giants that will be attending rookie camp and they are centre Tristen Nielsen and defencemen Alex Kannok Leipert.
There is a typo in the above Tweet. It lists Nielsen as 6’10” and 192 pounds. While they got his weight right, Nielsen is actually 5’10”, which was pointed out by Blake Price of the Sekeres and Price show.
The Canucks will have training camp in Abbotsford from September 23 to 25. Their first preseason game will be on September 26 where they will take on the Seattle Kraken in Spokane, Washington. They will then return to the Abbotsford Centre for the first preseason home game the very next night.
