Vancouver Canucks rookie, Nils Hoglander, has been added to the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol list. On Monday, the 20-year-old Swede joined16 other roster players on the Canucks who are currently listed. That does not include players on the taxi squad or members of the coaching staff.
With Hoglander now added to the mix of COVID-19 infected people within the Canucks organization, the total number is now believed to be over 20. An alarmingly high number considering the circumstances. Further proof of just how serious this virus can be.
This is not the first time Hoglander has dealt with a coronavirus outbreak on his team. Rogle BK of the Swedish Hockey League had an outbreak in November 2020, when Hoglander was an active player on the roster. Luckily for him then, he was able to avoid contamination. But unfortunately, he wasn’t able to escape it a second time around.
Hoglander joins Travis Boyd, Jalen Chatfield, Thatcher Demko, Alex Edler, Adam Gaudette, Travis Hamonic, Jayce Hawryluk, Braden Holtby, Bo Horvat, Quinn Hughes, Zack MacEwen, Marc Michaelis, Tyler Motte, Tyler Myers, Antoine Roussel and Brandon Sutter.
Hoglander has been a pleasant surprise for the Canucks this season. Known for his shiftiness and fearless attitude towards trying jaw-dropping stunts with the puck, he’s been able to transition that style of game to the NHL level. He hasn’t pulled off his famous “lacrosse goal” in an NHL game just yet, but he’s gaining more and more confidence with the puck each day.
Through 37 matchups this season, Hoglander has accumulated seven goals and 16 points. He’s also adapted very well defensively, playing big minutes next to shutdown centre, Bo Horvat.
