The Canucks need more goals from Brock Boeser right now

As it stands right now, Vancouver Canucks’ forward, Brock Boeser, is tied for third in the NHL for the most goals scored. His 12 tallies tie him with former Canuck, Tyler Toffoli, and place him two goals back of Connor McDavid (14) and six goals behind leading scorer, Auston Matthews (18).

Early in the season, Boeser’s shot had returned to its incredible rookie form and he was burying every puck he fired on goal. Wrist shots, one-timers, power play goals, it was all happening the right way for the Canucks’ best winger. For a time, he was leading all NHL players in goals and the thought of him continuing to dominate started to pop up more and more.

Keeping pace with McDavid and Matthews — two of the best players in the world right now — could be asking too much of the Canucks shooter, but he’s still capable of producing the most goals for Vancouver this season. A personal goal to take second or third in goals in the NHL this year would be a huge accomplishment for a player who only managed to score 16 times in 2019-20.

Unfortunately, the 24-year-old Burnsville Minnesota native has gone cold in the goal-scoring department, unable to light the lamp a single time over the past two weeks. That resulted in four straight losses followed by a Thatcher Demko shutout.

Currently, the Canucks are in sixth place in the Scotiabank North division with a record of 9-14-2. They have a three-point lead on the Ottawa Senators and are three points back of the Montreal Canadiens for the fourth and final playoff spot.

In a 56-game season, I’d normally say that the Canucks don’t have any hope in a comeback. But with the Canadiens having lost five straight games and having fired their coach, there’s a glimmer of hope that the Canucks season isn’t lost quite yet.

There is a ton of work to be done between now and the end of the season, but if Vancouver really wants to fight for this then they have to get a response out of Boeser. He needs to find a way to score goals like he was earlier this year. If Boeser can score as many goals in the second half of the season as he did in the first, it’ll be a good start for Vancouver and their march to the 2021 NHL playoffs.

What do you think, Canucks Nation? Can Boeser score another 12 goals through the back half of the season? Can Boeser find a way to get the Canucks back in the playoff race? His nightly performance will have a massive impact on the Canucks playoff chances.
