Canucks: The Reverse Retro jersey should never be worn again

Heading into the Vancouver Canucks‘ Reverse Retro jersey homestand, the Canucks desperately needed something to help turn their luck around. Placed sixth in a division of seven teams, winning was quickly becoming a must. With a record of 2-6-1 heading into the four straight games at Rogers Arena, the hope was that a new look on the ice would maybe help jolt this team back to life.

However, the Canucks instead went 0-3-1 in their green and navy blue swag, and there were no signs of a resurgence over that span of time. Quite frankly, the Canucks looked lost out there, and they couldn’t even have bought a goal if they tried. Winning just doesn’t seem to be in the cards for the Canucks right now, no matter what they do. They’ve been badly beaten by any team not called the Ottawa Senators.

All jokes aside, the Reverse Retro jerseys are not to be blamed for this disastrous string of games, but it’s hard to imagine the Canucks will want to wear this jersey again. Ever. Love it or hate it, the “Sprite” jerseys have got some flare to them but a winless jersey can bring a winless attitude, especially in such a superstitious sport like hockey.

Vancouver is a team with a cupboard full of different jersey looks to choose from, and this might be one of those sweaters the Canucks organization decides to walk away from entirely. With so many different options to look back on or bring back, why not dig out something different and give it a try? At this point in the season, it can’t hurt… can it?

From what we’ve seen in the Canucks’ plans to wear that jersey, it appears that might be the last of it. There are no games left on the team’s 56-game schedule that says they’ll be wearing those jerseys again. And at this point, that might be for the best.

The Canucks are back in action on Monday in Winnipeg. They’ll battle the Jets for two straight games before returning home for a battle with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Clearly, the road ahead won’t be getting any easier. But not having to carry those Reverse Retro jerseys around anymore might take some weight off of their shoulders. Here’s hoping anyway…
