The Vancouver Canucks have decided to cancel all team activities at training camp today after potential COVID-19 exposure took place.
Vancouver Canucks hockey is just a few days away, but just like that, the team has been struck with a potential COVID-19 scare. After last night’s scrimmage game took place between teams blue and white, the Canucks have decided to cancel all team activities today.
The news came straight from the Canucks’ Twitter account at 10:34 a.m. this morning making Vancouver the fourth team to cancel practice due to potential exposure. It stated that the decision was made out of an abundance of caution due to potential exposure to the coronavirus.
What caused the “abundance” of caution isn’t clear and the potential for exposure has yet to become knowledge of the public, but for obviously good reason, the Canucks organization isn’t going to be taking any chances. Even though it’s important to be up to speed and in game shape, the risk of someone getting the virus could be detrimental to the locker room.
So what does this all mean for the Canucks moving forward? That will all come to light in a short time as I assume every player will be thoroughly tested before returning to the ice. If a player or players comes up positive, the proper precautions will take place.
Luckily, Vancouver has put in a good amount of practice to this point and they’ve gotten some scrimmage games under their belts as well. From what it looks like, Travis Green more or less has the majority of his lineup figured out.
Besides maybe tinkering with the bottom-six a little bit more before opening night, the only thing left for Green to get a look at is Travis Hamonic. The defenceman signed a PTO with the club and was supposed to join the team today for practice after completing his seven-day quarantine. Unfortunately, that’ll have to wait.
Fingers crossed a scare is all it’ll be. Keep your eyes on The Canuck Way as this story continues to develop.
