Canucks: 3 takeaways from 3-0 game 7 loss to Golden Knights

The Vancouver Canucks lost 3-0 to the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 7, and as a result are eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs.

That was disappointing. I am sitting here on my couch, writing while Let Down by Radiohead plays in the background. The Vancouver Canucks lost Game 7 by a final score of 3-0 to the Vegas Golden Knights.

They are out of the Stanley Cup playoffs and out of the Edmonton bubble.

It was a very frustrating and disappointing performance. The Golden Knights were by far the better team and looked liked they wanted it more. The Canucks just couldn’t seem to get any offence or momentum going.

Here are three takeaways from last night’s game.

1. Thatcher Demko shines once again

You knew this was going to be the first takeaway. Thatcher Demko was magnificent once again. This game could have been easily been at least 6-0, but Demko kept it close.

For two and a half periods, he simply couldn’t be solved. Vegas tried shooting glove side, blocker side, low and high, but they couldn’t beat Demko. He looked incredible over the final three games, and for a while, it looked like he was going to steal Game 7.

Unfortunately, it just couldn’t last any longer.  Demko was finally beat by a Shea Theodore shot through traffic on the power play late in the third period.  That ended Demko’s shutout streak at 98 consecutive saves and 138:40.

Vegas went on to add two empty netters. Demko made 33 saves in another excellent performance.

Demko showed in this game and series that he is capable of being a starter in the NHL. He is the goalie of the future, and his performance is going to present a lot of questions with Jacob Markstrom in the offseason.
