Quinn Hughes and Chris Tanev were solid

Like always, Quinn Hughes and Chris Tanev made up the best pairing on the Canucks’ blueline. Like they never skipped a beat, Hughes and Tanev led all Canucks in ice-time and were solid from the very first puck drop all the way to the final horn.

In over 18 minutes of time on ice, Hughes led Vancouver with the most minutes. He drove play with a great Corsi For Percentage of 63.64, put two pucks on target, and nearly scored on one of them if it wasn’t for the great efforts of the sprawling Hellebuyck.

His counterpart, Tanev surprisingly led all Canucks in CF%. A mindblowing percentage over 70 that brought the Canucks a lot of offensive opportunities. For the defensive-minded Tanev, he’ll take the puck possession as a plus. His defensive game was solid as ever, and he even looked good next to Alex Edler in the third period.

This pairing is going to be make-or-break for the Canucks against the Wild. But from what they displayed on the ice last night, Canucks fans should feel comfortable with this pairing taking the bulk of the load from here on out. Hughes has energy to burn, and Tanev has a contract renewal to fight for.
