The Vancouver Canucks’ 50th year in the NHL was filled with fast-paced, high-scoring hockey.  Here are the five best games to rewatch over the NHL pause.

The Vancouver Canucks deployed an entertaining bunch of hockey players this season that knew how to hit the back of the net. With a stat to prove it, 21 times in 69 games this year the Canucks were able to score at least five goals in a game. For a season ticket holder, that’s most certainly worth the price of admission.

Several times over the team’s 50th year Vancouver put up impressive numbers. The Canucks’ most exciting offensive feature of 2019-20 was by far its power play. The man-advantage was a top-five threat throughout the year and there were a few different stretches over the season where Vancouver felt like an unstoppable force, especially when PP1 got rolling.

With the NHL still on pause and no change to that coming soon, there is still plenty to be proud of as a fan of the team and a lot of memorable games to look back on and rewatch during this social-distancing period. The Canuck Way is happy to give you what we think were the five most fun, exciting and entertaining games of the season that you can now rewatch from your couch at home to enjoy. Let’s begin!

1. February 22nd, 2020 – Vancouver Canucks defeat the visiting Boston Bruins 9-3.

Easily the most enjoyable game to rewatch from the 2019-20 season. For any long-term Canucks fan, the 2011 Finals loss still stings, so anytime you get a chance to see the Canucks beat up on the Bruins, you obviously have to take it.

Late in the season, Vancouver hosts Boston in an epic battle at Rogers Arena. All but four players tally at least a point and Tyler Toffoli shows the Canucks why he was a Trade Deadline acquisition. The top line combines for seven points and in a very exciting fashion, they handle the juggernaut Bruins and slowly pick them apart over 60 minutes pushing the limits of the 50th season team.

2. February 10th, 2020 – Canucks kick off Sedin Week with 6-2 win over the Predators.

Sedin Week proves to be the perfect momentum boost for the Canucks down the stretch. The week begins with Legends Night! A very memorable pregame ceremony with Canucks legends in the building. An in-house appearance from former players, Markus Naslund, Trevor Linden and Stan Smyl as well as a video message from the “Russian Rocket”, Pavel Bure.

The Canucks come out flying and like they did all season long this year, the Canucks power play completely embarrasses the Predators and Vancouver goes on to win the game in impressive fashion with a 6-2 domination what was supposed to be a defensively strong opponent. Very much worth the rewatch.

3. October 9th, 2019 – “A team like that” embarrasses the LA Kings 8-2 in home-opener.

It was a magical night of celebration to kick-off the team’s 50th season in the NHL. It was also the night Vancouver would name its 14th captain in franchise history. Met at center-ice by the first-ever captain, Orland Kurtenbach and former captain Henrik Sedin, Bo Horvat claims the captaincy and marks the dawn of a new era for Vancouver.

“A team like that” went on to down Drew Doughty and the LA Kings 8-2. Plenty of goals throughout the entire contest, but all the goals you want to see! Quinn Hughes pots his first NHL goal and J.T. Miller has a career-high four-point night. Lots of shots, lots of action. Canucks put all other teams on notice with this blowout performance.

4. January 2nd, 2020 – Canucks don’t quit earning 6th straight win downing the Blackhawks 7-5.

It’s always worth tuning in when the Chicago Blackhawks pay a visit to Rogers Arena. The rivalry may not be what it was in the early 2010s, but the hatred is still there and the new players seem to know how badly the fans still like beating the hawks.

This battle is a doozy as well as a back and forth affair. The lead changes hands multiple times throughout the contest, but Vancouver always manages to find the answer they need. Lots of goals and the Canucks bring a “never die” mentality. Elias Pettersson and Miller combine for seven points and the lotto-line goes off.

5. December 7th, 2019 – J.T. Miller snipes the water bottle in OT to beat the Buffalo Sabres 6-5.

All offence no defence. This game is fast-paced and the puck is flying up and down the ice. Tyler Myers finds his first goal as a Canuck, Josh Leivo manages to score twice and Miller snipes the water bottle in overtime to close it out.

Next. Canucks: Nikolay Goldobin never got a chance. dark

It’s an incredible and exciting game and the Canucks look tremendously dangerous in their flying skate jersey. If you want to see the Canucks look stylish while also taking care of business, then look no further than this game. It’s the perfect way to start the top-five countdown of this year’s best games.
