All-Star Pettersson

When Pettersson walked into training camp this season, he was head and shoulders above the rest of the Canucks. One of the NHL’s elite, Pettersson was determined to come back stronger, faster and in better condition for an 82-game grind. He did just that. Pettersson has played in every single game for the Canucks this season. and he leads the team in points.

Pettersson has lit the lamp 18 times already, to go along with 23 assists for a total of 41 points in 40 games. The point per game Swede has been the best Canucks’ player, and it’s landed him his second straight NHL All-Star game.

Pettersson is that player that can change everything with just one chance. A split second can change the outcome of any game and for parts of December, it was the Marky and Pettersson show. The team wouldn’t be getting much done, but Markstrom would bail them out until finally, Pettersson was given his “one-shot” that would ultimately win the game.

The 1-0 win over the Hurricanes is the perfect example of why Pettersson is an NHL All-Star. The team was heavily outshot and brutally outplayed. But Markstrom stopped all 43 shots he faced, and Pettersson got it done in overtime with a beautiful goal.

It was something you had to see for yourself to believe. Pettersson dangled his way around a broken stick, got control of the puck and absolutely roofed it where mom keeps the peanut butter.

A goal that can only be scored by an All-Star like Pettersson. Without a doubt, the second-year centre deserves to beat this year’s All-Star game.

Final thoughts

December was a turn around month for the Canucks, who managed to get back on track and keep their promises of 2020 playoff hockey alive.

Consistency was found in important parts, and it will be key moving forward. The Canucks have a difficult string of games against playoff competition in January, and it all starts against the Blackhawks on Thursday.
