The Vancouver Canucks have reportedly given contract extensions to their assistant coaches, and prospect Vasily Podkolzin suffered an injury. All this, while Adam Gaudette made a nice gesture for a very unlucky fan, who got a whole lot luckier.
Just a day removed from the Vancouver Canucks falling in overtime to the St. Louis Blues, a few pieces of news have come out. Here’s the latest.
Ferland won’t travel with team
The Canucks are about to embark on a two game road trip where they will travel to Winnipeg, then Chicago, to face the Jets and Blackhawks. After last night’s game, head coach Travis Green revealed that winger Micheal Ferland won’t travel with the team.
Ferland went into concussion protocol after leaving the first period of the Canucks’ game against the LA Kings after dropping the gloves with Kyle Clifford.
Gaudette rights a wrong
Last night, The Canuck Way’s very own Jacob Calvert, a co-founder of the “Lotto Line” name, went to the Canucks’ game at Rogers Arena. Excited as ever, Calvert was absolutely thrilled to buy an Adam Gaudette jersey from the in-arena team store.
All was fine, Calvert thought. That was, until he got back to his hotel room and realized that the name on the back of his jersey read “Guadette”, not “Gaudette”
The team store, and Adam Gaudette himself, replied to Jacob this morning, righting the egregious jersey foul:

Peace and balance is now restored.
Assistant coaches extended
As per Sportsnet 650’s Scott Rintoul, the Canucks have given their assistant coaches contract extensions. James Cybulski further explained that goaltending coach Ian Clark was also given a contract extension.
This is a good move for the Canucks, as the coaches will now all be on the same page, and the goaltenders get to work with a goaltending coach who has done so much good for them already.
The length of Newell Brown’s and Nolan Baumgartner’s extensions now give them the same expiry year as coach Green — the end of next season.
Podkolzin injured
In other news, Canucks prospect Vasily Podkolzin was injured after crashing into the net hard during the CHL Canada/Russia Series. You can watch the video here. It’s unclear at this time how serious Podkolzin’s injury is at this time, but the Russian forward did not go to the locker room, and stayed on the bench for the rest of the overtime frame.
That’s the latest on your Vancouver Canucks, who will be in action tomorrow, facing off against the Blackhawks tomorrow. Puck drop is at 5:30 PM Pacific Time from Chicago.
