The Vancouver Canucks schedule for next season was just announced. Let’s take a look at some key games in the upcoming season.

It looks like the NHL schedule maker had a little bit of sympathy for the Vancouver Canucks this year. While in past years, the Canucks have been known to have one of the toughest schedules in the league — mostly due to playing on the west coast — this year’s schedule doesn’t look all that daunting.

The Canucks get plagued with injuries every year, and part of that is the amount of travelling and long road trips they embark on each and every year. Well this year, the Canucks have just one six-game road trip, whereas last year, they set out on three gruelling six-game road trips.

The six-game road trip this season will begin with a 5:30 PM start in Dallas on November 19th. The Canucks will then travel to Nashville, Washington, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh before they wrap up the trip back north of the border against the Edmonton Oilers on November 30th. They will then play the first five games of December at home.

You can view the full schedule here, but here are some key games that I’m looking forward to.

Wednesday, October 2nd @ EDM 7:00 PM: This is the first game of the 2019-20 Canucks’ season. It’s a given, you don’t want to miss this game.

Wednesday, October 9th vs LAK 7:00 PM: The home opener. Whether you want to buy tickets to feel the energy of the arena as the players arrive one by one through the tunnel, or you just want to watch on TV, this is a game you should be excited to watch.

Saturday, October 19th @ NJD 10:00 AM: Assuming Jack Hughes makes the New Jersey Devils roster out of training camp, this will be the first time that hockey fans, in general, get to see the Hughes brothers face one another on NHL ice.

Monday, October 28th vs FLA @ 7:00 PM: Anytime Mike Matheson visits Rogers Arena for the remainder of his career, there’s no doubt in my mind that Canucks fans will boo him mercilessly. There’s also the prospect of seeing Roberto Luongo play in what could be his last time in Vancouver, you never know.

Sunday, November 10th vs NJD @ 1:00 PM: Not only his Hockey Fights Cancer night (well, day), but it is part two of the Battle of the Hughes brothers. Do you think the schedule maker knew that fans would be intrigued to watch these two brothers go head to head?

Tuesday, December 10th vs TOR 7:00 PM: Every time the Leafs come to town, the arena always has a lot of Maple Leaf fans and sweaters present. The chants of “Go Leafs Go” are drowned out once Canucks fans begin their “Go Canucks Go” chant. These are always fun games to go to.

February 10th, 12th, and 16th: Known as “Sedin Week”, these three games will feature celebration fo the illustrious careers of Daniel and Henrik Sedin, with the official jersey retirement night taking place on the 12th.

Saturday, February 29th @ TOR 4:00 PM: This will be the Canucks second and last meeting of the season with Toronto, but it will be a Hockey Night in Canada broadcast, and since it’s in Toronto, it basically guarantees that former voice of the Canucks, Jim Hughson, will be calling the game.

Saturday, April 4th vs VGK 7:00 PM: This is the final game of the regular season, but hopefully isn’t the final game we see from the Canucks until October of 2020. Aside from the game itself, it is also fan appreciation night, which in last year’s event, fans were provided with the opportunity to meet different Canucks players in the plaza prior to puck drop.

Since you’re likely wondering, here are the confirmed games in which the Canucks will wear the Black Skate jersey, as per their websiteFriday, October 25th, Saturday, January 4th, and Saturday, April 4th. Which games are you most looking forward to watching?
