Welcome everyone to a brand-new feature – Nucks News. I will be bringing you snippets of news on our beloved Vancouver Canucks as well as stories from around the league, and doing so on a regular basis. So, without further ado, let’s see what’s occurring in our home town:

  • Anyone with a penchant for reminiscing should read Patrick Johnston’s piece on EP40’s debut goal against the Flames [Vancouver Province]
  • Brandon Sutter was mic’ed up for the season opener. The following video is foundational, but should also shut the naysayers up. You can see leadership coursing through his veins. [Canucks TV]
  • While not strictly about the Canucks, this piece by Ben Birnell gives you the complete lowdown on your 2018/19 Utica Comets – with key Canucks prospects Adam Gaudette, Jonathan Dahlen and Thatcher Demko looking for good seasons to further their chances of making the Canucks next fall [Utica Observer-Dispatch]
  • Speaking of which, AHLTV launches this weekend – and does so with free access. Take advantage if you can, as the Comets take on the Marlies and the Senators [The AHL.com]
  • And lastly from Canucks-land, it’s really hard not to like EP40, especially when he’s so humble:

Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Fresh from their 7-0 pasting on opening night, the Bruins spanked the Sabres 4-0. I don’t know about you, but there’s no other team around the league that I still get a thrill out of seeing lose, and a gut-wrenching pull in my stomach when they win. On the flip side, Rasmus Dahlin’s quest for the Calder started out on the wrong foot, with no shots and a -1 rating. Our colleagues at Sabre Noise don’t have a game recap up yet, but their game preview stated that Dahlin would improve their defense ‘tenfold’. Warning there for any Quinn Hughes fans [Sabre Noise season preview]
  • I might not like their social media accounts but by God, do the Vegas Golden Knights know how to put on a show [NHL.com]
  • This is how old-school hockey teams do things. Bring out a recently-retired player and have him drop the puck. This league is much poorer without the Sedins and Henrik Zetterberg but guys, up your game. This is the new NHL. [NHL.com]
  • Make yourself feel better by reading Bruce Garrioch’s in-depth game recap on last night’s Sens loss to the Blackhawks. That team is in serious trouble. Feel-good story of the night goes out to Max Lajoie’s mom, who was clearly in tears when he scored on his debut. Mama Pettersson 1-0 Mama Lajoie. [Ottawa Sun]
  • Karma can be a real you-know-what:

And finally – because I always like to end with a question – how many wins do you think this Canucks team is going to produce this season?
