After a slow couple of weeks, the Vancouver Canucks are finally back in the news spotlight. Here is the latest on the Erik Karlsson trade rumours, Brock Boeser and Da Beauty league, plus more.

It’s been a long time since the Vancouver Canucks were involved in trade rumours for a game-changer like Erik Karlsson, but Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman dropped quite the bombshell on Wednesday afternoon.

That sent Canucks fans into a frenzy, and for good reason. Could this rebuilding team really sacrifice its future to land a two-time Norris Trophy defenceman, one who’s good for 70-plus points a season?

The Karlsson and Canucks rumours aren’t the only thing to pay attention too, however. Brock Boeser had another strong showing in Da Beauty League. And oh, Rogers Arena is undergoing just a minor colour change inside the arena.

Here is the latest Vancouver Canucks news for Thursday afternoon.

Latest on Karlsson

Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports appeared on The Jeff Balir Showand warned Canucks fans not to get too excited (or nervous, I guess), about the possibility of Karlsson coming to the west coast.

“I think it’s more kicking tires than anything else. It’s obvious that Pierre Dorion is going to ask for young players in return and it’s obvious that the Canucks wouldn’t take that road, which is totally understandable,” said Lavoie.

Furthermore, Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre explained why the Canucks aren’t in position to trade Karlsson. General manager Jim Benning also made it clear that he won’t be sacrificing his key talent in such a deal.

“I’m not trading the Quinn Hughes and Brock Boesers and Elias Petterssons. That’s not happening,” he told Sportsnet.

There’s also this tidbit:

Relax, Canucks fans. Karlsson won’t be coming here. Benning won’t be sacrificing his top talents for a 2019 free agent.

Seat Colour Changes, Sedin number retirements

Vancouver Canucks COO Jeff Stipec appeared on TSN 1040 (h/t Rob Williams of Daily Hive), and said that the seat colours at Rogers Arena will undergo a change. Stipec suggested that |it would be in the blue and green just to match the team.”

There’s also no question that the Sedins’ numbers will be retired one day. Stipec there has been no decision made yet as to win it will happen.

Boeser Da Beauty

Expectations are high for Brock Boeser after finishing as a runner-up for the Calder Trophy. And judging by his play this summer, the 21-year-old is ready for another big year.

Per Mike Johnston of Sportsnet, Boeser was named MVP of his hometown Minnesota-based Da Beauty League, finishing with a whopping 15 goals and 33 points in only eight contests. You feel sorry for the guys who just couldn’t go up against this rising star.

There is no more need to be worried about the gruesome back injury Boeser suffered late last season. He’s back to his same old dominant self, and the Canucks can expect an even bigger second year for the 2015 first round pick.

Boeser had 29 goals and 55 points in 62 games last season. He’ll have the chance to build off of that strong rookie season with Bo Horvat and/or Elias Pettersson as his possible linemates.
