The Canucks are letting their fans choose which retro jersey they want to use on special occasions in their 50th season. They left a notable option out, which could mean something very exciting in 2019.

Anniversaries are a great opportunity for hockey teams. The Vancouver Canucks turn 50 during the 2019-20 season and they want their fans to help them choose a throwback jersey saved for special occasions. In a way, it feels like we are picking the team’s third jersey (at least we hope so).

Third jerseys do return next season, but if the Canucks are building up hype for their big anniversary, they may forego a special jersey for 2018-19. So, what are you options? Fans have three choices, selecting one of the Flying Skate, West Coast Express Orca or Flying V.

There is only one answer here, but if you do like one of the latter two better, right on. I don’t like them as much and the Skate itself is not even my favourite logo, but you do you. One notable absence from this vote is the Stick in Rink.

Initially, that disappointed me, but then I realized something. If the Stink in Rink isn’t an option, the Canucks may choose to make the switch to that logo for the future. It makes a lot of sense. The 50th anniversary allows the team to reset; to move away from a previous era.

For the nostalgic, this is a return to basics, where it all began. One of my favourite jerseys in team history is the alternate used during the Sedin era. It featured the modern stick in rink logo with Johnny Canuck on the shoulders. No wordmark, no orca, no problem.

Personally, I love the blue and green over the red, yellow and black. Having both jerseys in use for the 50th season should be appealing to all Canucks fans. So, what does this mean for next season? I think nothing changes concerning the look of the jerseys. But get ready for the year after. The team may not be better, but they are going to look pretty damn good out there.
