You may remember on Thursday night, the Vancouver Canucks closed out the game on the power play playing keep away against the Dallas Stars to secure a 4-3 win.

With 2:01 left in the third period and the Canucks leading 4-3, Stars centre Derek Roy was called for hooking Canucks forward David Booth. The penalty sent the Canucks to the power play.

Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault would send out his regular first power play unit with Alexandre Burrows, Henrik Sedin, and Ryan Kesler up front and Daniel Sedin and Alexander Edler on the point—a decision that caught the eye of Sportsnet play-by-play commentator John Shorthouse.

Playing a forward at the point on the power play with a lead and that late in the game is unconventional and risky. One missed shot or miscue on the power play could cause the play to move the other direction. The shorthanded team could pull their goaltender for an extra attacker leading to a five-on-five scenario with one defenceman.

Turns out the decision was made by design. The Canucks sent out their best players to play a game of keep away against the Stars to run the clock. There were three attempted shots, two by Kesler and one by Daniel, that all missed the net and there were no miscues that happened.

This one doesn’t beat “The Shift,” but has to rank up there as one of the other top Sedin moments. What was “The Shift?” Here’s a reminder:
