The Ex-Canuck Factor: Dan Cloutier
Today I am going to be starting The Ex-Canuck Factor segment where weekly I will talk about one former Canuck and where they are now. This idea was formed by Frank Rekas on therattrick.com. With the current goaltending controversy in Vancouver I thought I should start the first edition of The Ex-Canuck Factor with a former Canuck goaltender. You guessed it – Dan Cloutier! Now put that beach ball away and try to remember the best and the worst of the fierce Dan Cloutier.
A few days ago, The Canuck Way writer Balraj wrote about how Roberto Luongo and Corey Schneider will both be staying in Vancouver this season. He described how it would be Vancouver’s best option. You can read his article here. But for now, I am going to refute his article and describe why I think trading Cory Schneider or Roberto Luongo before the trade deadline is the best option for the Vancouver Canucks. To start off, my biggest reasoning for either Roberto Luongo or Cory Schneider being traded by trade deadline is because I believe it will give the Canucks the [...]
All I Want For Christmas Is Shea Weber In Vancouver
Every NHL fan has thought about their dream player on their favourite NHL team. You may love your current team, but face it; there is always room for improvement. Most NHL fans may choose players such as Sidney Crosby (healthy preferably), Alexander Ovechkin, Nick Lidstrom, or even Steven Stamkos. Personally I like to choose a more realistic player. Sure having one of the above players on the Canucks would be absolutely fantastic, but the chance of that happening is more unlikely than Aaron Rome winning the Norris trophy. When it comes down to choosing an effective and realistic addition to [...]
Where In The World Is Manny Malholtra?
Have you seen Canuck Manny Malholtra? He seems to be missing – at least a part of him is. Manny Malholtra is known as a two-way forward and for his exceptional faceoff percentage. But so far this season Vancouver has not seen this shut down defensive forward match his last season high calibre performance. He has declined in speed, strength, time, and overall effectiveness. During the 2010/2011 season Manny Malholtra was being considered as a Selke nominee, the trophy for the leagues best two way forward. In the end he ranked 5th for the Selke trophy. He was playing as [...]
On Monday the NHL board of governors approved the new four conference format for the NHL. These conferences are currently unnamed and will be as follows: Conference A: Anaheim, San Jose, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Edmonton, Calgary, Colorado, and Vancouver. Conference B: Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Minnesota, Nashville, St. Louis, and Winnipeg. Conference C: Boston, Buffalo, Florida, Montreal, Ottawa, Tampa Bay, and Toronto. Conference D: Carolina, New Jersey, NY Islanders, NY Rangers, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Washington. THE GOOD The best thing regarding the Vancouver Canucks that will come out of this NHL conference realignment is going to be the reduction of [...]
Canucks’ Health Linked to Standings
If any General Manager was asked if they would trade a shot at the Stanley Cup in exchange for a rough start to the following season, the majority would likely jump at the opportunity. Though there are no “genies in a bottle” that would offer this kind of trade-off, I use it to illustrate the position the Canucks find themselves in this season. Having gone as deep as a team possibly can in 2010/11, injuries sustained in that run have affected the team profoundly. Three players that immediately spring to mind are Mason Raymond, Manny Malhotra and Ryan Kesler (the [...]
The Vancouver Canucks are a team with a rich history, having been founded in 1945, and slowly evolved into an NHL franchise in the class of 1970. Like all franchises, they have had good years, and they have had bad years. This year your Vancouver Canucks are attempting to get over that last hump and bring a championship home to the city of Vancouver. It’s only November, so the fact that the ‘Nucks are sitting at .500 hockey shouldn’t have anyone worried. There is a lot of hockey to be played. And we want you to be on board with [...]
This Calls For A Jack Adams
The regular season isn’t over yet and the playoffs have yet to begin but that doesn’t mean we can’t start talking about end of season awards. Who doesn’t like to speculate about who’s going to be taking home some NHL hardware this season? It’s usually a fun little debate that lets you focus your attentions away from the playoffs. Dave Hodge over at TSN has already kicked the festivities off. In one of his recent Hodgemail articles he was asked who he thought should be awarded the Jack Adams trophy and be named coach of the year in the NHL [...]
