The Canucks captain scored his 1000th point to tie the game, while Luca Sbisa scored the go-ahead goal in the third. Ryan Miller made 34 saves.

The Canucks just keep rolling along.

Sure, they’re not the most fun team to watch. Without much forward depth, they’re forced to grind out low-scoring, low-event games. But, with great goaltending, solid defense and some breakthroughs on offense, they can earn wings.

That’s exactly what they did tonight against the Florida Panthers.

Recap:

The Canucks carried play for most of the first period. Despite outshooting the Panthers 11-6, they failed to score.

The Cats’ head coach Tom Rowe must have given a great speech during the first intermission, because Florida came out flying in the second period. Somehow, they racked up 21 shots in the middle frame.

As usual, Ryan Miller made it all look easy. But even Miller could not hold back the unstoppable force that is Jaromir Jagr. With Alexandre Burrows in the penalty box for holding, Jagr struck:

Not to rub any salt in the wound, but Jagr was set up by former Canuck Jared McCann.

While Jagr and former Vancouverites McCann and Roberto Luongo are worth buying tickets for, they were not who Rogers Arena fans paid to see tonight. Henrik Sedin entered this game with 999 career points.

He gave the fans exactly what they wanted. And not on some crummy secondary assist, either.

Oh, no, we’re talking about a sweet, sweet goal:

After he scored, everyone wanted to hug Henrik. Every teammate, every fan, and even the opposing goaltender:

With that milestone out of the way, Vancouver entered the third period focused on winning another close game.

Three minutes in, with Henrik and Daniel Sedin on the ice once again, Luca Sbisa recieved the puck on a broken play. Standing right between the faceoff dots, he beat Luongo from close range to put his team ahead:

The Panthers could not manage another 21 shots this period. Instead, they could only scrape together eight, which Miller stopped. He finished with 34 saves, and Vancouver hung on to win 2-1.

With that win, they have passed the Los Angeles Kings in the standings, at least for now. They are just one point behind the Calgary Flames for the final wild card spot, with one game in hand.
