Vancouver Canucks Defence Playing More Aggressive: Coach Tortorella

Vancouver Canucks head coach John Tortorella says the defence has received the green light to play more aggressive.

In the post-game press conference, Canucks TV’s Joey Kenward noted that aside from a shutout loss to the Phoenix Coyotes on March 4, the Canucks have gotten a point from a defenceman in each of the games this month.

“It’s an aggressive mindset,” responded Tortorella, noting the team had to switch to a more conservative style earlier when they lost players to injury.

“We had to change our game a little bit and making sure we were strong away from the puck when we lost so many guys, but then we just kind of stayed in that.

“I met with the leadership group and that’s where I felt I made a mistake in not snapping us out of that quicker—in our pinching, our D up the ice, [and] just being more aggressive.

“We just lost ourselves there and it took us too long to get back to that. And that’s my responsibility. ”
