Bieksa appeared on CBC’s After Hours segment after the Canucks defeated the Calgary Flames 2-1 on Saturday and was asked about his thoughts on the Kesler situation.
“There was a lot of hearsay and rumours going around,” he said. “I don’t think many people really know the whole story.
“Talking with [Kesler], he never requested a trade, so we’re happy he’s still here. He’s happy he’s still here. He’s a huge part of this team and going forward we’re really going to need him.”
Kesler trade rumours became rampant following the Olympic break and a trade to the Pittsburgh Penguins was apparently close.
Reports say the Canucks had a deal to send 29-year-old centre to the Penguins in exchange for a package that included Brandon Sutter before being quashed by owner Francesco Aquilini.
Interesting times ahead in Vancouver.
