Canucks Goaltender Roberto Luongo Out At Least A Week With Groin Injury

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

There was some hope Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo would be healthy enough to backup Eddie Lack on Sunday against the Calgary Flames, but it won’t be happening.

Luongo will miss at least the next week to seven days with a suspected groin injury, according to the Province’s Tony Gallagher.

The official update from head coach John Tortorella was Luongo’s “day-to-day.”

Lack will start on Sunday against the Flames and is expected to carry the load until Luongo is ready to return.

Joacim Eriksson has been recalled from the Utica Comets to backup Lack.

He had a rough start at the beginning of the season adjusting to the North American style of play, but has been rock solid recently.

The Canucks play again Monday at home against the Philadelphia Flyers, but don’t expect Eriksson to get the start in the second game of a back-to-back.
