Canucks’ Zack Kassian Appears to Mock Oilers’ Sam Gagner’s Jaw Protection

Vancouver Canucks right winger Zack Kassian appeared to mock Edmonton Oilers centre Sam Gagner for wearing a jaw protector at the tail end of Friday’s game.

In a scrum in front of the benches with 48 seconds to go, Kassian pointed to his chin, gestured, and asked, “What’s that?”

It is assumed Kassian was gesturing Gagner’s jaw protector that has to wear as a result of Kassian’s reckless high stick in the preseason that earned the 22-year old winger a eight game suspension. Gagner had to undergo surgery and missed 13 games from the high stick.

As expected, the gesture elicited quite a negative response on Twitter”  But, Ryan Rishaug, who reports on the Oilers for TSN, seemed to be the most riled one of them all:

He had to find out whether Kassian apologized to Gagner for his high stick to really nail down and illustrate the point that Kassian is classless:

I think she’s right:

Him too:

I, for one, am happy that it wasn’t a throat slashing gesture. It sure looked like one to me initially and we know the NHL doesn’t take too kindly to such a gesture.
