Vancouver Canucks Recall Yannick Weber from Utica Comets

The Vancouver Canucks have recalled defenceman Yannick Weber from the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League.

The Canucks are down to six defencemen with Alexander Edler out indefinitely, so the recall of Weber will give them an extra body on the roster in case of injury or a defenceman missing practice for a maintenance day.

Weber was placed on waivers on November 18 by the Canucks and sent to the minors the following day to activate Dale Weise off injured reserve.

There were suggestions that Weber may not report to the Comets, but he ultimately did.

In six games with the Comets, Weber showed his offensive upside by scoring two goals and adding five assists.

It might be sooner rather than later we see Weber in the lineup. In the two games Edler’s been out, Andrew Alberts has played only 6:33 and 8:39, which is on the extreme low end for defencemen.
