Yannick Weber Reports to Utica Comets, Scores Game-Winner

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

Vancouver Canucks defenceman Yannick Weber decided to the Utica Comets after all.

There were reports earlier this week that Weber may choose not to report so he could play in Europe.

He made his Comets debut on Saturday night against the Rochester Americans and scored the game’s opening goal 9:04 into the first period on the power play.

From WHAM-TV’s game recap:

After taking a pass from Henrik Tommernes a few strides inside the blue line, Weber fired a wrist shot that made its way through traffic and found the back of the net. Pascal Pelletier also collected an assist on the power play tally.

Darren Archibald added a third period tally and the Comets defeated the Americans 2-0 for their first-ever win on home ice and shutout.

Goaltender Joacim Eriksson was in goal for the win and stopped 33 shots.

The Comets now have four wins and ten points on the season. They have won four of the last six games after going winless in the first ten games of the season.
