Ottawa Senators Intererested in Vancouver Canucks Defenceman Yannick Weber?

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

The Ottawa Senators are in the market for an upgrade on defence and they could have their eyes on Vancouver Canucks defenceman Yannick Weber.

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun suggests Weber is one of five blueliners that are available around the league. The others being Hal Gill, John-Michael Liles, Alec Martinez, and Tom Gilbert.

It is difficult to imagine a scenario where Canucks general manager Mike Gillis trades Weber especially since he will get a draft pick in return at best.

Weber has been invaluable to the Canucks playing nine games on right wing and another on defence. He has come as advertised—a versatile defenceman that can fill in on right wing seamlessly.

The Senators will have to look elsewhere for help on defence unless they are ready to give a decent roster player for a depth player.
