The Vancouver Canucks recalled defenceman Yann Sauve from the Utica Comets for “cap planning” purposes, according to head coach John Tortorella.
The team sent out a press release late on Wednesday night announcing the move causing mass confusion among the fan base. The Canucks just called up a defenceman to replace an injured forward, Jannik Hansen.
Call up of Yann Sauve is “cap planning” according to Tortorella. Sounds like a conversation for Laurence Gilman. #canucks

The recall of Sauve put the Canucks over the salary cap, so it allowed the team to get cap relief after placing Jannik Hansen on long-term injured reserve.
The Canucks refused to discuss the specifics of Hansen’s injury other than it is an upper-body injury. We do know the injury is serious enough to keep him out of the lineup for a minimum of 10 games and 24 days.
