Vancouver Canucks Cut Five More Players on Thursday

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

The Vancouver Canucks cut five more players on Thursday following a 4-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers the night before.

Forwards Pascal Pelletier, Colin Stuart, and Zach Hamill were all placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League.

Alexandre Grenier and Brandon DeFazio, who both didn’t need to clear waivers, were immediately re-assigned to the Comets.

The Canucks preseason roster is now at 42 players—four goaltenders, 16 defencemen, and 22 forwards.

The Comets have a preseason game scheduled for Sunday, September 22 against the Abbotsford Heat at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. The Canucks will need to assemble at least a 20-player Comets roster for that game.

Goaltender Mathieu Corbeil, defenceman Sacha Guimond, and forwards Pelletier, Stuart, Hamill, Grenier, DeFazio, Ludwig Blomstrand, Mitch Elliot, Alex Friesen, Jesse Mychan, Wes Myron, and David Pacan have all been assigned to the Comets by the Canucks.

The Canucks will play their third of six preseason games on Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place. Expect the Canucks to make multiple cuts after the game and re-assign any player that they don’t believe will be making the team’s opening night roster.
