Has Rollie Melanson Been Fired as Canucks Goaltending Coach?

Vancouver Canucks goaltending coach Roland Melanson‘s name is missing from NHL.com’s list of goaltending coaches.

Team 1040 broadcaster Blake Price brought the page to the attention of his followers after he noticed the Canucks goaltending coach position says “To Be Determined”.

The list appears to be up-to-date since it has former NHL goaltender Olaf Kolzig is listed as the Capitals goaltending coach and he was just named to that position on Tuesday.

However, it doesn’t appear Melanson has been fired. The Province’s Jason Botchford chimed in saying he remains with the Canucks.

The Canucks, of course, gutted their coaching staff this past offseason after a second consecutive first round exit. Melanson along with video coach Darryl Williams were retained, but Canucks general manager Mike Gillis said their future would be determined by the new head coach.

Many believe Melanson might have gotten himself fired after he had some choice words about Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price.

“Carey hasn’t stopped deteriorating since I left,” Melanson said. “He’s all over the place now. At some point, there has to be some accountability in the school yard. The position requires a lot of work and Carey hasn’t been consistent. He let things slide in practice and it caught up to him during games.”

It appears Melanson will return for a fourth season as the goaltending coach.
