Vancouver Canucks general manager Mike Gillis says his team is not interested in signing free agent forward Gilbert Brule.
A fan attending the Canucks Summer Summit at Rogers Arena asked Gillis if the team had any interest offering the North Vancouver product a tryout in training camp.
Gillis responded saying the team has similar players in the system, so signing Brule would be “redundant.”
Brule, 26, had expressed interest in joining the Canucks last week saying Vancouver is one of the places he has thought about.
“Naturally I’ve thought about Vancouver because I’m here, and I know they could use a centre,” Brule told the Province. “The strange thing is that when my agent (Edmonton’s Gerry Johannson) talked to them [the Canucks] before, when I was a free agent, they said no because of my father.”
Gilis: “I have not thought about (UFA) Gilbert Brule. We have players ahead of him and that would be redundant.” #canucks
