Vancouver Canucks/NHL Announce 2013-14 Schedule

The National Hockey League has finally announced the Vancouver Canucks schedule for the upcoming 2013-14 season after much delay due to the ongoing negotiations regarding NHL participation in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The NHL, NHLPA, International Olympic Committee, and the International Ice Hockey Federation came to an agreement on NHL player participation today and it allowed the schedule to be finally released. The league will go on Olympic Break from February 9 to 25, 2014 to allow top players from around the league to participate in the Olympics.

Canucks fans knew their team would be playing on March 2, 2014—the announced date for the 2014 NHL Heritage Classic, but outside of that, it wasn’t clear.

We now know the Canucks will be opening their season on the road on  Thursday, October 3 against the San Jose Sharks. Their final game of the season will be on Monday, April 13, 2014 at home against the Calgary Flames.

  • March 2 – Heritage Classic vs Ottawa Senators at BC Place

This season, the Canucks will play the new seven-team Pacific Division consisting of themselves, the Sharks, Flames, Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, and Phoenix Coyotes. The top-three teams will make the playoffs with a fourth spot decided by wild card.

Also announced was the start of training camp, which will be Wednesday, September 11 with players reporting for physicals. The Canucks open their preseason schedule on Monday, September 16 against the Sharks. The rest of the dates have not been announced, but the teams the Canucks will be facing has been:

Vancouver will play four games at Rogers Arena and two on the road against San Jose (one home, one road), the Edmonton Oilers (one home, one road), Phoenix Coyotes (one home) and the New York Rangers (one home).

There won’t be a split-squad game this season against the Flames like in years past.
