The Vancouver Canucks will be naming John Tortorella as their head coach early next week, according to TVA Sports’ Louis Jean. He is apparently in Vancouver to finalize his contract.
Appearing on the Dave Pratt Show on CKNW, Friday evening, Canucks general manager Mike Gillis said no meeting has been scheduled between himself and Tortorella. Gillis did, however, confirm the head coach search is down to Tortorella and a candidate he refused to name. The candidate is widely believed to be Los Angeles Kings associate coach John Stevens.
The media frenzy surrounding Tortorella started Friday morning when the Winnipeg Free Press’s Gary Lawless reported Tortorella was offered the Canucks job and was on his way to Vancouver. The media managed to somehow track down the exact flight Tortorella was on and met him at Vancouver International Airport.
He didn’t say anything to the media and all we got was a Vine video of him being escorted into a SUV.
