Vancouver Canucks Announce Return of Young Stars Tournament

The Vancouver Canucks announced the return of the Young Stars Classic (previously known as the Young Stars Tournament) to Penticton, British Columbia from September 5 to 9.

“We’re pleased to host the Young Stars Classic in Penticton once again,” Canucks general manager Mike Gillis said in a release. “Our fans, partners and the city of Penticton have made Young Stars a tremendous event over the past two tournaments and we look forward to continuing the tradition this year. This is a great opportunity to assess prospects and their development in a competitive environment with the support of passionate fans.”

The prospects of the Canucks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, San Jose Sharks, and Winnipeg Jets will all be participating in the tournament. Each team will play each other once for a total of eight games. An alumni game will also be played featuring the Canucks alumni taking on a team composed of the other teams’ alumni and local police and fire department members.

Game 7 Vancouver vs. Edmonton Sunday, September 8 2:00pm
Game 8 San Jose vs. Calgary Sunday, September 8 5:30pm
Game 9 Winnipeg vs. Vancouver Monday, September 9 12:00pm

The 2012 edition of the tournament was cancelled due to the impending NHL lockout.
