Canucks' Cory Schneider Has a Groin Injury?

Injured Vancouver Canucks goaltender Cory Schneider might have a groin injury based on a video tweeted out by the Vancouver Province’s Jason Botchford.

The linked video (alternative link) shows Schneider making a save last Monday against the Chicago Blackhawks on left winger Brandon Saad. Schneider is seen slowly getting up afterwards.

According to Botchford, this was the play where Schneider was “apparently” injured. He says he is “pretty sure” it is a groin injury for Schneider.

Goaltender Roberto Luongo has started in every game since and will make his fourth consecutive start (including regular season) in Game 2 against the San Jose Sharks after Schneider missed Thursday’s practice.

Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault didn’t offer up much of an update other than Schneider remains day-to-day with a body injury.

It can’t be a good sign that Schneider missed practice after practising on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

In the interim, the Canucks will have to rely heavily on Luongo as the team’s third-string goaltender (and now backup) is Joe Cannata, who has 21 games of professional experience mostly in the ECHL.  The team did not acquire a goaltender at the trade deadline despite losing Eddie Lack for the season.

Luongo was brilliant in Game 1 and held the fort until the third period when the Canucks defensive and offensive deficiencies were finally exposed by the Sharks.
