The Vancouver Canucks have acquired centre Derek Roy from the Dallas Stars in exchange for a second round pick and defenceman Kevin Connauton.
The Canucks have been without a true third line centre since Manny Malhotra went down with an eye injury in March 2011. Maxim Lapierre filled in admirably during the run to the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals and most of last season, but is probably best for the fourth line.
They got their third line centre in Roy on Tuesday, one day before the trade deadline. To make room for Roy, centre Jordan Schroeder has been re-assigned to the Chicago Wolves.
