Canucks Centre Ryan Kesler Expected to Play "Within a Week"

Vancouver Canucks centre Ryan Kesler will begin skating today and they expect him to begin playing within a week.

Canucks general manager Mike Gillis revealed the news to TSN’s Farhan Lalji on Monday just prior to the game against the San Jose Sharks.

His imminent return will ease the pressure to acquire a top-six centre at the trade deadline and will not force the Canucks to overpay for a rental centre like the Dallas Stars’ Derek Roy and Washington Capitals’ Mike Ribeiro.

Kesler broke his foot at the end of February and his recovery was pegged at four-to-six weeks. It appears he is on schedule for a return at six weeks.
