The Vancouver Canucks will be wearing the Vancouver Millionaires jersey for a game when they take on the Detroit Red Wings on March 16 at Rogers Arena, according to Vancity Buzz.
[We] were told that they WILL be wearing the Vancouver Millionaires uniform on March 16, 2013 against the Detroit Red Wings. Mark your calendars Canucks fans, this won’t be a regular occurrence!
There is no word if the Red Wings will be wearing a throwback jersey of their own against the Canucks.
The Canucks made the announcement last Friday that they would be adding a “V” patch to the front right chest of their third jersey and wearing them in select home games for the rest of the season to “celebrate 100 years of hockey on the West Coast.”
The release hinted at something special on March 16, but did not indicate what they were doing. We now know they will be wearing the Millionaires jersey.
Fort Nucks, the official blog of Canucks.com, has pictures of Ryan Kesler wearing the Millionaires jersey for a photoshoot.
Back in 2008, the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League licensed the jersey and logo from local businessman David John Mikl and wore them for a game against the Kamloops Blazers as part of their Stanley Cup Legends Night at the Pacific Coliseum.
Canucks Sports & Entertainment acquired the rights to the Millionaires trademarks in 2010 and immediately launched a small line of merchandise.
