Alex Burrows Left Off of Spengler Cup Roster

Vancouver Canucks winger Alexandre Burrows was left off of Team Canada’s roster for the 2012 Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland.

There was a report last week that Canadian officials had contacted Burrows about the possibility of wearing the maple leaf.

Hockey Canada unveiled its roster on Friday and keeping with tradition, officials named mostly Canadians playing in Switzerland and overseas.

Locked out goaltenders Devan Dubnyk and Jonathan Bernier will tend the goal for Canada. Former fourth overall pick Cam Barker and San Jose Sharks defenceman Jason Demers were among the defencemen named.

Up front, the team will have plenty of familiar names. They include Matt Duchene, Jason Spezza, John Tavares, Patrice Bergeron, Sam Gagner, and Tyler Seguin who are all playing in the Swiss league.

Ryan Smyth was also named to the team and it is a safe bet he will captain the team. He was the only NHL skater named to the team not playing in Europe.

The tournament will run from December 26 to 31 and will be coached by Doug Shedden. Canada last won the tournament in 2007 and with the tremendous amount of NHL talent on the team, they are instant favourites.
