Even though head coach Alain Vigneault said yesterday that Robert Luongo would be the Canucks starting goalie in Game 6 against the Chicago Blackhawks it was actually back-up goalie Cory Schneider who got the nod. It was a surprise move to anyone watching the game.
There was no injury report that had Luongo’s name on it. So either Vigneault saying Luongo was still his starter was a ploy to get the Blackhawks to prepare for Luongo, a surprise last minute decision because of a gut feeling or a sudden injury.
Who knows how it will turn out but if Schneider leads the Canucks to a victory in Game 6 and a series win Vigneault might have a goalie controversy on his hands. One that he didn’t need.
He was even quoted as saying he had confidence in Luongo: “I’ve got total confidence in Roberto and the way he prepares and the type of person that he is.”
The Canucks currently lead the Blackhawks 1-0 during the first period.
