Why Do I Still Like This Year's Team?

This post comes after some pretty poor showings at Rogers Centre. Still, I like this team and while I don’t see a lot of panic in the streets I think it’s important to point out why this team is good and worth taking three hours out of every second night to sit on the couch and watch.

A friend of mine still yearns for the days of Jovo, Ohlie, and Nazzy. Another friend still wishes we had Bure, Linden, and Maclean. Although there’s nothing wrong with remembering those players and teams that excited you, in the end, they didn’t win the cup. So let’s forget about the last couple of games for now and look at what we have here:

1.The Sedins – these guys are pure magic on the ice, they have opposing coaches teaching their own players how to play like the brothers. Bonus: they’re also complete professionals.

2. Burrows, Kelser, Bieksa – these guys have all the tools needed for a great playoff run. They’re cocky, fierce competitors and other teams’ fans hate them. They just need to stay healthy.

3. Luongo –  OK, even I have to admit my confidence in Roberto is not as high as it once was, but the guy makes some sick saves and we all know that if he gets on a roll during the playoffs, watch out. And hey, that Schneider kid ain’t half bad either.

4. Offense from the D – the Canucks defense men are the best at jumping into the play and becoming a fourth forward which leads to some great goals. If only they could be a bit better in their down low coverage and in front of their goaltender.

5. The suits – I really believe that the Canucks management and coaches get it right more often than not. From drafts and trades to free agency and player development, this team is being run like a first class organization.

So this all adds up to justify why I love this team even after the complete embarrassment in Chicago this past Saturday. How about you? Why are you still watching hockey instead of some good old Seinfeld reruns or shoveling snow?
